The project began as a remodel of a 1920s bungalow on a small hillside street in the Santa Monica Mountains and grew to include a full two story residence with basement, a new subterranean garage with a planted roof, a new guest house with roof serving as a pool deck, a new exterior fireplace and trellis, and several site stairs and retaining walls.

Guided by the client, PECK ARCHITECTURE created an architecture that fused several design influences, from the “modern” Mediterranean of Irving Gill, to Streamline Moderne, to Polynesian “tree-houses.” Together with an interior designer and landscape architect, we developed the window designs, ceilings, tile, cabinetry, interior finishes, exterior stone, trellis, and fireplace designs. The result is a house that is fully integrated with the site.

PECK STRUCTURAL prepared the design of the accessory building, garage, and site walls. The garage is a green roof structure and the accessory building sits below the pool terrace. Both structures are integrated with site walls and stairways.

PECK CIVIL prepared the site grading and drainage design.
