The project is designed to take advantage of its position at the top of a north facing knoll off of Mulholland Drive in the Hollywood Hills. Hillside grading, fire department access, and zoning constraints drove the design of the site which includes two pile-supported site walls below the access drive, as well as a slough wall at the upslope side of the pad. Structural considerations include accommodating the unusual site concept, which includes a large lower level tucked into the earth which supports interior and exterior spaces above. The Upper level sits below a kinked and folded butterfly roof fabricated from steel beams. Our work involved the grading design for the site as well as the structural engineering of all site walls, elevated roadways, the pool, and the main building.
